It's nice to hear compliments on being a pioneer of anything. What Fleetwood accomplished in the early sixties transcended the period of sound that began with wax cylinders and on to 78 rpm and the final frontier of the long playing record @ 33-1/3. We came along at the beginning of High Fidelity and Stereophonic sound. I remember about that time, companies were going out and recording thunder- storms and any kind of eerie sounds. It was not unheard of to hear the acceleration of a monster steam locomotive or the four-propeller-driven take off of a Douglas DC6. Classical Music Composer Bela Bartok's son, Peter, took portable stereo equipment onboard a Stanley Steamer (the automobile my friend, not the carpet cleaner!). Peter (an old friend) also went up Pike's Peak for the SCCA Race to the Clouds.

I chose to go with the acceleration of automobiles in all sizes and horsepower. and when people asked me what I did for a living?? – – – I rest my case!!

And so here you have the sounds (sans the sight) of one of NASCAR's super plants – The Charlotte Motor Speedway. The winner was Fred Lorenzen in a 405 HP FORD. What is so American about NASCAR is that you had drivers who started racing on a sandy beach in Daytona, Florida – that ended up with another NASCAR monument, the Daytona International Speedway, The Daytona 500. The safety evolution and progress has done so much for the American motorist in terms of constant progress in drive trains, tires and restraints, that it's no wonder that the fan base has out-of-sight numbers in support throughout the year. So we can't give you the DVD pictures, but at least from a pioneering spirit angle, we were able to document the sounds (up close or far away coming out of turn one), and now with digital re-mastering, can save much of those highlights for CD's.

To that end, Fleetwood wants to share with you, an unforgettable era in the world of motor sports.
